Fregate Island, Seychelles

Fregate Island is east of Mahé and the most distant of granitic islands. Explorer Lazare Picault named Fregate after the populous frigate birds. It was once described to be a paradise "a thousand miles away from the rest of the world." The island is covered with cashew, Indian almonds and takamaka fruit trees commonly found in Eastern Africa. Fregate is home to the rare Seychelles Magpie Robin and the flightless giant Tenebrionidae Beetle. The island operates a successful Fregate conservation program that encourages guests to adopt and save the giant tortoises.

Visitors can hike Mount Signal the highest point of the island that reaches 410 feet and then retreat to their resort inspired by Seychellois, Bali, and Thailand architecture.
